Another Manchester computer pioneer: Desmond Henry Posted: 01 November 2013

4th December 2013 at 14:00 in Lecture Theatre 1.4

Speaker: Elaine O'Hanrahan Host: David Rydeheard

This seminar is in the form of a pre-Christmas entertainment. We have recently learnt about the work of Desmond Henry [1921-2004] who was an artist, philosopher and pioneer in computer art. He used wartime analogue computing devices to create artworks, and was a member of the Philosophy Department at the University of Manchester. He discussed morphogenesis with Alan Turing and received an award from L.S. Lowry. We are planning to create a display of his work, possibly in the Kilburn building. There has been a recent exhibition of his work at MOSI. Desmond's daughter, who keeps his archive, is offering to give us an illustrated talk about her father's work. Do come along. Desmond Henry was a very interesting character and a highly accomplished artist as well as an engineer and philosopher. If you are interested in helping with a display of his work - this is an opportunity to get involved.

There will be an opportunity to meet the speaker at a reception in IT406 after the seminar when refreshments will be available.
